The Jurassic Period was the middle portion of the Mesozoic Era; it followed the Triassic Period. It lasted from about 206 to 144 million years ago. Huge, long-necked dinosaurs appeared during the Jurassic.
In the Middle Jurassic, the supercontinent Pangaea started to drift apart. There was a minor mass extinction toward the end of the Jurassic period.
