The first dinosaurs were only about 6 feet long. In the next 165 million years, dinosaurs evolved into many different shapes and sizes. The smallest dinosaurs were just the size of a chicken, and the largest were as big as a house. Some dinosaurs, like T. rex, were meat-eaters (also called carnivores), but most dinosaurs were plant-eaters (also called herbivores).
It is thought that dinosaurs went extinct after a huge asteroid hit the Earth. This event changed the world's climate. Those animals and plants that couldn't adapt (including the remaining dinosaurs) went extinct.
